The much-anticipated reopening of Tøyenbadet, Oslo‘s largest public bath, has hit a bump in the road. The concrete walls of the facility have been vandalized with unwanted graffiti, as reported by Avisa Oslo on Saturday. The unsightly tags remain on the walls as of Sunday afternoon, just a day before the grand reopening.

The city’s Bymiljøetaten is now working to remove the graffiti, according to the report. Lene Ødegaard Olsen, senior communications advisor at the department and press contact for the Tøyenbadet reopening, expressed her disappointment in the incident.

"We’re saddened that this has happened. We’re currently working to have it removed," Olsen said.

The graffiti appears on the entrance party wall and the concrete wall beneath the outdoor pool, casting a shadow over the otherwise impressive renovation. The revamp of Tøyenbadet has been costly, tallying up to a total of 2.37 billion Norwegian kroner.

Set to open its doors again on Monday, January 6, after a five-year closure, Tøyenbadet emerges as Oslo’s newest and largest public bath. The city eagerly awaits its reopening, hoping the graffiti incident remains an isolated occurrence.
