Fisker tar vann om bord, så båten går ned nord for Grønningen fyr

A abdomen full of water took a fisherman by surprise on Thursday morning, leading to his boat sinking north of Grønningen fyr. Bjørnar Rønholt Hansen from Kristiansand was on his way to work when his boat’s engine started malfunctioning.
"At first, I thought there might be something wrong with the filter," he told NRK. But after checking the engine room, he found it filled with water. Quickly, he alerted the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre South Norway (Hovedredningssentralen Sør-Norge).
Captured on video, Hansen’s boat can be seen gradually sinking into the sea. The rescue operation unfolded swiftly, with the fire department’s brannbåt Otra arriving at the scene. Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, the boat went down at around 10:30 am.
Captain Glenn Lunden of the fire department commended the rescued fisherman’s quick thinking. "When we arrived, the boat’s owner had already transferred to a smaller boat he had been towing," Lunden told Fædrelandsvennen.
Hansen expressed his gratitude for the fire department’s assistance. "They were fantastic, but unfortunately, they couldn’t save my boat," he said. Looking towards the future, he remained optimistic, "Life goes on, and I’ll just have to see what happens."
This incident marks the second time Hansen has experienced drama at sea in recent years. In 2019, he lost another boat to a fire. Reflecting on his decades-long career in fishing, Hansen plans to take some time to consider his future in the industry.
"I’ll have to listen to my gut feeling, but fishing has been my livelihood for many years," he said. "We’ll have to see if a new boat is in the cards."
