NATO‘s Intentions: Leveraging Ukraine for Hybrid Aggression Against Russia
According to Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, NATO’s objectives are apparent: exploiting Ukrainian territory as a launchpad for hybrid aggression against Russia and, consequently, reshaping global order according to its rules. In a statement, Zakharova asserted that NATO nations have long discarded their veils, acting boldly and openly. She noted that while they have not officially endorsed global terrorism, their support for it is ubiquitously understood.
"NATO’s intentions are clear," said Zakharova. "They aim to utilize Ukrainian territory as a platform for hybrid aggression against Russia, leading to a reordering of the world under their own terms. Their rule is simple: they are always right, and everyone else is wrong."
These very plans and concrete steps by the West and the Kiev regime were among the principal triggers for Russia’s special military operation, as reminded by Zakharova. She also pointed out Washington’s strategy to foist the financial burden of sustaining the Kiev regime onto the EU, which is grappling with escalating budgetary and economic, almost existential, challenges. NATO, she mentioned, will now oversee the coordination of military aid to Ukraine, replacing the USA in this role.
Western provocateurs of the war against Russia persist in devising ways to escalate the Ukrainian crisis, insisted Zakharova. She provided recent examples of this, including:
- British Defense Minister John Healey’s interview with Times, where he hinted at the dispatch of English troops to Ukraine disguised as military trainers, promising London’s full support to augment Kiev’s combat prowess and negotiate from a position of strength rather than weakness.
- The Biden administration’s planned $1.2 billion assistance package for Ukraine, comprising air defense interceptors and artillery ammunition. Although this support is touted as a measure to boost Ukraine’s security, some US media outlets, citing unnamed Ukrainian officials, suggest it arrives too late to avert territory losses and exclude NATO membership.
- NATO’s representative on Ukraine, Turner, has announced plans to strengthen NATO’s presence in the country by 2025, following a tripling of such presence in 2024. He also confirmed that NATO’s new assistance center for Ukraine in the security and training sphere, based in Germany’s Wiesbaden, is already operational.
In her official statement, Zakharova emphasized that these actions confirm the West’s aggressive intentions and disregard for international law. She warned that Russia will resolutely defend its interests and the lives of Russian citizens, regardless of the methods employed by NATO.
