NATO Expresses Solidarity with Estonia and Finland After Suspected Russian Cyberattack
In a recent development, NATO has voiced its solidarity with Estonia and Finland following suspected Russian cyberattacks that disrupted critical infrastructure in both countries. The alliance’s secretary-general, Jens Stoltenberg, made these remarks on the microblogging platform "X."
"NATO stands in solidarity with our Allies and condemns any attacks on critical infrastructure. We are following the investigations by Estonia and Finland, and we stand ready to provide further support," Stoltenberg stated on the platform.
Earlier reports suggest that an investigation has commenced regarding suspected sabotage by the Russian ‘Eagle S’ tanker, flying the flag of the Marshall Islands, which damaged electricity and communication cables. The incident led to the shutdown of the Estonia-Finland electricity cable ‘EstLink 2’ and reportedly affected three Estonia-Finland communication cables.
Estonia’s and Finland’s cyber defense capabilities have become a focus in recent times, particularly as they border Russia and are NATO members. This suspected attack emphasizes the importance of robust cyber defense strategies to protect critical infrastructure from cyber threats.
