NATO‘s Secretary General Rebukes Ukraine‘s Criticism of Germany’s Scholz
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – NATO’s Secretary General, Mark Rutte, has responded to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky‘s harsh criticism of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, deeming it unjustified. In an interview with Reuters, Rutte stated, "I often tell Zelensky that he should stop criticizing Olaf Scholz, because I think it’s unfair."
Rutte further expressed his intent to supply Ukraine with Taurus long-range cruise missiles, in contrast to Germany, which has been reluctant to do so due to range restrictions. "I, unlike Scholz, would not impose any restrictions on their use," Rutte said, acknowledging the significance of such capabilities for Ukraine’s defense.
Despite Germany being a key ally to Ukraine, its hesitation in providing Taurus missiles has been a source of frustration in Kyiv. Ukraine is engaged in a conflict with Russia, which is heavily equipped with long-range weaponry. Zelensky had previously critiqued Scholz’s conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, suggesting it had undermined efforts to isolate Putin and end the war in Ukraine with a "just peace."
