Sony Interactive Entertainment and developer Naughty Dog have confirmed that science-fiction adventure game Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet will receive its full reveal in 2027, according to studio head Neil Druckmann. The announcement, which accompanied the conclusion of The Last of Us Day 2026, sets expectations that the studio will remain quiet for the remainder of the year following the completion of motion capture work earlier in the month.
Development Timeline and 2026 Silence
Originally announced for the PlayStation 5 at The Game Awards in December 2024, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet will not make an appearance at major industry events for the rest of 2026. Druckmann stated in an official blog post that the team is heads down on what is shaping up to be Naughty Dog’s most ambitious game yet. While industry insider NateTheHate has previously suggested a potential 2027 release window, the studio has only confirmed a full reveal for that year and has not announced an official release date.
Studio Focus and Production Status
Development on the project is progressing smoothly behind the scenes. Naughty Dog wrapped up filming and motion capture work earlier in September 2026, though production and polishing remain underway. Druckmann noted that there is an electricity around the studio as all the pieces come together, but emphasized that the team needs to cook for just a little bit longer rather than rely on frequent updates and patches.
Expanding The Last of Us Franchise
Alongside updates on the new sci-fi intellectual property, Naughty Dog confirmed that it is actively developing two projects designed to expand The Last of Us canon beyond Part I and Part II. Druckmann emphasized that the fictional world means a great deal to the development team and that they would not return to it without having something significant to say.
Pro Tip for Fans: While Naughty Dog has completed motion capture work for Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, players should not expect gameplay footage or trailers until the studio officially lifts the veil in 2027.
