In an unprecedented feat, Norwegian drama "La Palma" is in distinguished company, featuring alongside global sensations like South Korean phenomenon "Squid Game," Spanish smash hit "Money Heist," and French sensation "Lupin," according to Netflix’s recent top 10 list.
Manuscript by Harald Rosenløw Eeg and Lars Gudmestad, "La Palma" is a culmination of exceptional teamwork that has resonated internationally. "To reach many with what we create is a dream, but to see a Norwegian-produced series like ours rubbing shoulders with the likes of ‘Squid Game’ and ‘Money Heist’ feels surreal and incredibly inspiring," they expressed.
Premiered on December 12, the catastrophe series debuted at the top of Netflix’s charts in 23 countries, attracting 13 million views in its first week alone. By New Year’s, the tally had surged to 40 million, with film scholar Marius Øfsti speculating at the time that "La Palma" might be the most-watched Norwegian series ever.
Øfsti told TV 2, "These figures are likely the highest a Norwegian TV series has ever achieved." Recent updates reveal an astonishing 58 million viewers have now tuned in, solidifying "La Palma" as a true Norwegian success story on the global stage.
