The Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET) and Politeknik Perkapalan Negeri Surabaya (PPNS) of Indonesia have formalized an agreement to broaden their collaboration in education, research, and community service. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed on Sunday at DUET, with the stated goal of bolstering human resource development in science and engineering technology.
Expanding Educational Ties
The signing ceremony took place at DUET’s meeting room and was attended by DUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Mohammad Zainal Abedin and Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Md Arefin Kawsar. Professor Mohammad Abu Taiyab, DUET’s registrar (additional charge), and Rachmad Tri Soelistijono, director of PPNS, officially signed the MoU on behalf of their respective institutions.
Professor Zainal Abedin described the agreement as a “milestone” for knowledge exchange and research collaboration. He indicated the partnership is intended to create more opportunities for academic exchange, joint research, and international experience for students, ultimately aiming for a more modern and competitive education system.
Areas of Cooperation
The MoU outlines a wide range of collaborative activities, including cooperation in education and training, joint research and publications, international conferences, community service, faculty and student exchange programs, and shared access to laboratories and workshops. Capacity-building initiatives are also included in the agreement.
Also present from PPNS was Professor Anis Mustaghfirin, head of the Sustainable Energy Engineering Technology Programme. Several DUET faculty members and officials, including Dean Professor Md Anwar Hossain of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, were also in attendance.
