Residents of Ventspils will have the opportunity to view a model apartment this Friday and Saturday, offering a preview of a new 60-unit apartment complex currently under construction at Saules Street 122.
New Housing Addresses Long-Term Rental Needs
The project, which is being implemented by “Ventspils nekustamie īpašumi,” is supported by the financial institution “Altum” through a loan from the European Union Recovery Fund Program. Construction of the two five-story buildings is nearing completion, with interior finishing and landscaping still underway.
According to Armīns Kleinbergs, chairman of the board of “Ventspils nekustamie īpašumi,” the apartments are “compact” but designed to be “cozily furnished” to demonstrate potential living arrangements. Additional open house days are planned for January, following a break for the Christmas holidays.
Demand Exceeds Supply
Ventspils City Council Chairman Jānis Vītoliņš noted a limited availability of long-term rental properties in the city, despite a prevalence of short-term rentals and property ownership by Lithuanian buyers along the Latvian coastline. He stated that the high volume of applications received upon opening the rental queue – exceeding the number of available apartments within two days – demonstrates a clear need for this project.
The complex will include two one-room apartments, 20 two-room apartments, and 38 three-room apartments. Six of the 60 total units have been specifically adapted for residents with disabilities.
