Arnhem’s Iconic Café Finds New Owner After Years of Planning
ARNHEM — After years of nurturing an idea, local entrepreneur Jan van der Meer has taken the reins of the city’s beloved Café de Stad. The iconic café, a staple in Arnhem’s cultural scene, has found a new owner who promises to breathe fresh life into the historic establishment.
Van der Meer, a longtime resident of Arnhem, has been quietly plotting his takeover of the café for several years. "I’ve always had a soft spot for Café de Stad," he revealed. "I’ve been coming here since I was a student, and I wanted to ensure it remains an integral part of the city’s landscape."
The new owner plans to maintain the café’s classic charm while introducing innovative touches. "I want to honor the café’s history while also making it appealing to a new generation of customers," van der Meer explained. "Expect to see some exciting changes, but don’t worry, the essence of Café de Stad will remain intact."
The café, located in the heart of Arnhem, has been a gathering spot for locals and tourists alike for decades. Its cozy atmosphere and rich history have made it a cherished institution in the city.
Van der Meer takes over from previous owner Piet de Jong, who decided to step back after decades of running the café. "I’m confident that Jan will do an excellent job," de Jong said. "He understands the café’s heritage and has some great ideas to move it forward."
The handover marks an exciting new chapter for Café de Stad. With its new owner’s vision and passion, the café is set to continue its legacy as a beloved Arnhem institution for years to come.
