Headline: Ukraine in 2025: New Year Brings Tax, Price Hikes and Water Tariff Increases for Some
The year 2025 is set to kick off with a financial pinch for Ukrainian citizens due to impending tax and price increases. While the government has maintained a moratorium on hikes for natural gas and heating, some utility costs are poised to surge, leaving a significant impact on businesses and, in some cases, residential customers.
The National Commission for State Regulation of Energy and Utilities (NKREKP) recently approved new tariffs for centralized water supply and wastewater services, affecting 37 communal housing companies. The decision, among the 30 agenda items discussed at the December 24, 2024, NKREKP meeting, has sparked changes in pricing structures for both businesses and residents in cities like Kharkiv and Vinnytsia.
In Kharkiv, businesses engaged in centralized water supply and wastewater management will now pay 20.84 UAH per cubic meter, excluding VAT. Those not operating in these sectors will face a higher rate of 48.16 UAH per cubic meter, also excluding VAT. Meanwhile, in Vinnytsia, tariffs will vary depending on the status of the consumer, ranging from 26.87 UAH to 49.17 UAH per cubic meter without VAT.
Notably, these tariff increases are slated only for businesses, as residential customers will continue to benefit from the existing tariffs. However, this reprieve may not extend to all Ukrainians, as regional variations in water tariffs could lead to price hikes in other parts of the country. Recent reports have indicated potential increases in water tariffs in certain areas, including Kyiv Oblast.
While the New Year promises new opportunities, Ukrainian citizens and businesses must brace themselves for the financial challenges ahead, including tax, price, and, for some, utility increases that are set to take effect in 2025.
