Despite the inclement weather, the celebration continued, with attendees donning ponchos as umbrellas were prohibited.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) implemented stringent security measures, including plainclothes officers, K-9 units, drones, heavy weapons teams, and chemical, biological, and radiological detection systems. Although there was no specific threat, authorities maintained a "high threat level" to ensure attendees’ safety. Backpacks, large bags, and umbrellas were prohibited in observation areas.

Not all planned events in the city could overcome the weather. The drone show in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park and the New York Road Runners’ midnight run in Central Park were both canceled.
