NHL Results: Nemec Scores, Fehérváry Wins, & Maple Leafs End Losing Streak

NEWARK – Slovak hockey defenseman Šimon Nemec scored his tenth goal of the season, but his New Jersey team narrowly lost at home to Calgary 4:5.

Martin Pospíšil and injured Samuel Honzek were absent from the Calgary lineup. Washington, with Martin Fehérváry, won 2-1 in Buffalo, ending their eight-game winning streak.

Twenty-two-year-old defenseman Nemec was the third-most utilized player for the home team with 21:22 minutes on the ice and, in addition to his goal, recorded one shot, two hits, one block, two turnovers, and two minus points. His goal came in the 22nd minute, when he reduced the score to 2-3 on a power play rebound. In 51 games this season, he has 22 points (10+12).

St. Louis Blues players won on the road against the top team in the Eastern Conference, Carolina, 3-1, securing their fourth win in the last five games, but they are still six points away from playoff positions. Dalibor Dvorský played 12:24 minutes for the visitors, took one shot on goal, and recorded one hit. Fehérváry played 19:56 minutes in the win over Buffalo, received a minor penalty, and recorded a shot on goal, a hit, and a block.

Tampa Bay, without the injured Erik Černák, defeated Detroit 4-1 thanks to two goals from Gage Goncalves and Jake Guentzel. Pavol Regenda was again absent from the San Jose lineup. The Sharks won 4-2 on the road against Boston, with all three members of the second offensive line, William Eklund, Michael Misa, and Tyler Toffoli, recording a goal and an assist. San Jose ended a three-game losing streak and holds the last playoff spot in the West.

Toronto ended an eight-game losing streak after winning 6-4 at home against Anaheim. Matthew Knies shone for the home team, scoring a goal and adding three assists, while Matias Maccelli had a 1+2 record. Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews managed to score a goal before being injured by a knee-on-knee hit from Ducks Czech defenseman Radko Gudas, who received a match penalty for the infraction.

The last team in the East, New York Rangers, won 6-3 in Winnipeg, extending their winning streak to three games. Dallas also has a three-game winning streak, defeating Edmonton 7-2 with a four-point performance from Jason Robertson (2+2). Nathan MacKinnon scored a goal and added three assists, leading his Colorado team to a high-scoring 5-1 win in Seattle.
