Waves of Sympathy Emerge After Pleas to Find a Home for the Dog of the Missing 13-Year-Old Boy from Konaре, Stara Zagora
An outpouring of support has been seen following appeals to find a home for the dog of the missing 13-year-old boy from the Stara Zagora village of Konaре. Many have come forward offering to take in the animal.
The boy’s mother stated yesterday that the family does not want to keep the dog. The animal was found to be in poor condition, visibly underfed. After being examined by veterinarians, the prognosis is not promising.
However, today, the second father of the boy with Down syndrome, who went missing on December 17, declared that he will not give up the dog.
"I won’t let it go because I’ve been watching it for a year and a half, and now, as it happened with this job, I can’t just let it go," Dimitar Yanakov, the boy’s stepfather, told bTV.
When asked why his wife said someone else should take the dog, he replied, "She’s crazy, because the kid isn’t here. She doesn’t want to see the dog, but I will, because in a house, there should be a dog."
Tatiana Baycheva from the "New Chance for Rejected Angels" organization in Kazanluk has agreed with the family to take the dog temporarily for a check-up and treatment. However, she will eventually return it.
"The dog from Konaре is with me. We’re heading to the Flamingo clinic. I took it with great difficulty, promising to return it after a check-up. What will happen next depends on the tests. The dog was on a string, in a box from a refrigerator. There was some salad for food. The man won’t give it up because he’s been promised a whole bunch of doctors will be sent there. He believes it. I don’t know how events will unfold, and I can’t promise I can keep it against its owner’s will, but not by legal means," Baycheva wrote on Facebook.
She later added, "Today, the dog from Konare was supposed to be with me. Placed in a clinic, with all the tests done. Who told you that by chipping it, you’ll solve the problem? At the moment, the puppy is tied to the drainpipe, without a kennel, shivering from the cold. It’s sick, dying. You’re going to chip it! And tomorrow, will they start taking care of it? Will they feed it, take it to the vet, walk it?"
We remind you that the dog appeared in the village on Sunday around 19:30 and was recognized by the boy’s mother and stepfather.
Despite initial attempts to find the boy with Down syndrome using the dog, the operation was unsuccessful. The 13-year-old has been missing for eight days now, and since today, military personnel have also joined the search efforts.
Interior Minister Aatanas Ilkov from Konare assured that the search will continue, but from tomorrow in a reduced format.
