Baltic and Northern European States Concerned, Call for Urgent Action in Georgia

The Baltic and Northern European states, part of the NB8, have expressed deep concern over the political situation in Georgia, following reports of violations before and during the October 26 parliamentary elections. In a joint statement, they urged Georgian authorities to investigate these alleged breaches thoroughly and impartially.

The NB8, comprising Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Finland, and Iceland, condemned acts of violence and intimidation by protesters, politicians, and media representatives, and strongly criticized Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili’s threats.

As longtime friends and supporters of Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic integration efforts, the NB8 is alarmed by the country’s deepening polarization and crisis. They called on Georgian authorities to swiftly exit the crisis and restore public trust in democratic institutions.

The NB8 urged Georgian authorities to promptly implement European Democratic Security and Cooperation Organization (EDSCO) recommendations for electoral reforms and consider holding new elections based on these proposals. They stressed the importance of Georgia’s territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders.
