Norovirus Nearly Eradicated in Nursing Home After Swift Action
In a testament to the effectiveness of swift and stringent measures, the norovirus outbreak in a local nursing home has been almost entirely contained within two weeks. Only two residents in one ward now test positive for the virus, according to Cindy Vanhoutte, the city’s Health Alderman (CD&V).
Vanhoutte, who attended a morning meeting to assess the situation, commended the nursing home’s prompt response. "Thanks to our quick implementation of strict measures, we’ve managed to virtually eliminates the norovirus from our residential care center within just 14 days," she said.
All residents in the affected ward were tested this morning, with results expected on January 2. If all tests come back negative, the center plans to ease restrictions. However, visitors are still urged to exercise caution, as other respiratory infections and influenza are currently circulating in the area.
