Norovirus Outbreak at Gelderse Vallei Hospital: Patients Isolated to Prevent Spread
GELDERSE Vallei Hospital has implemented strict measures after an outbreak of norovirus led to patients being placed in isolation. The norovirus, often referred to as ‘winter vomiting bug’, has caused several patients to fall ill, leading the hospital to take swift action to prevent further spread of the virus.
Norovirus is highly contagious and can cause symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach cramps. It is typically spread through contaminated surfaces, food, or contact with infected individuals. The virus can linger on surfaces for several days, making it difficult to contain once an outbreak occurs.
"The hospital is currently taking all necessary steps to control the situation," said a spokesperson for Gelderse Vallei Hospital. " Patients who have tested positive for norovirus are being isolated to prevent the spread of the virus to other parts of the hospital. We are also strictly adhering to our infection control procedures and have stepped up our cleaning efforts to ensure the safety of all patients and staff."
Visitors to the hospital are also being advised to take precautions to prevent the spread of the virus. This includes washing their hands thoroughly with soap and water before and after visiting patients, and refraining from visiting if they themselves are unwell.
