A 41-year-old man has been charged with two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder following a homicide investigation launched after two people were found dead in Auckland’s Glenfield overnight, according to police statements.
Police Investigation and Arrests in Birkdale and Glenfield
Police were initially called to a residential address on Seon Place in Birkdale at around 8.21pm after receiving reports that a person had been stabbed, according to official reports. Waitematā police Acting Detective Inspector Megan Goldie stated that a man at the address sustained moderate injuries. “Police arrested the alleged offender at the property,” Goldie said. While officers were speaking with this male, information prompted authorities to dispatch a unit to a property at Lingfield Street in Glenfield to conduct a welfare check.
At the Lingfield Street address, two people—a man and a woman—were found dead. 1News footage from the scene showed police officers stationed at the property, which was cordoned off around 9pm. St John reported sending one ambulance, one operations manager, and one rapid response unit to the scene. A neighbour told 1News that a husband and wife aged in their 60s had lived at the property for some time, and that the pair had two adult sons.
Community Context and Official Response
“This is an awful set of events. I know this will leave many in our community unsettled, but what I can say at this early stage of the investigation is that the offender and victims are all known to each other,” Goldie said. Authorities emphasized that while there will be an increased police presence around Birkdale and Glenfield, there is no ongoing threat to the wider community.
The victim from the Seon Place address was recovering in hospital, according to police updates. Scene guards remain in place at both addresses, and investigators are scheduled to conduct scene examinations over the coming days. Post-mortem examinations will take place in due course to include formal identification procedures, Goldie said.

The 41-year-old male defendant is scheduled to appear in the North Shore District Court today to face two counts of murder alongside one count of attempted murder.
