NSW Roadside “Human Remains” Bag Actually Contained Life-Like Doll

Suspicious human remains discovered inside a discarded suitcase along a regional New South Wales road turned out to be a life-like doll, according to New South Wales Police. The discovery triggered a major police operation and forensic examination in Oallen before authorities confirmed the item was not human.

Police Response and Forensic Investigation at Oallen Road

A major police operation kicked into gear on Sunday after two members of the public found a suitcase containing what appeared to be decomposed remains. The discovery was made by two men who had stopped on the side of the road while out for a weekend drive, according to police reports.

The scene is located at Oallen in the Southern Tablelands region of New South Wales, about 60km southeast of Goulburn, 109km northeast of Canberra, and 225km southwest of Sydney. On Monday morning, police stated they believed the remains belonged to a woman, which prompted an extensive forensic examination of the scene.

Forensic Testing Rules Out Human Remains

Superintendent Linda Bradbury announced during a media briefing in Goulburn on Monday that forensic investigations had officially ruled out human remains. “We are still undertaking more forensic work to identify what they are, but we can identify that they are not human,” Superintendent Bradbury told reporters. “They were mistaken for a human originally, so they are very realistic in the term of looking like human remains … but we have confirmed they are not.”

Police later confirmed that the item located inside the bag was a life-like doll wearing clothing, complete with hair and a nose piercing. Authorities added that “the item also had markings that resembled bruises and grazes.” Following this confirmation, police announced that investigations into the incident had concluded.
