Officer Slain by Ex-Partner in Fatal Reunion: Both Lose Their Lives

Bonder Police Sergeant Killed by Ex-Partner in Villa Gesell; Man Later Commits Suicide

In a tragic turn of events, a sergeant from the Bonaerense Police was fatally shot by her former partner early this morning, with the perpetrator then taking his own life in Villa Gesell. The disturbing incident occurred as the officer, Yanina Noemí Zárate, returned from her duty in Cariló.

Sources close to the investigation revealed that the shooting happened around 6:40 AM in the vicinity of Paseo 100 and Avenida 27, as Sergeant Zárate, aged 38, approached her residence. Her former partner, Gustavo Alejandro Juárez, also 40, was present, and a heated argument ensued, escalating into a physical struggle.

During the altercation, Juárez managed to disarm Zárate, snatching her service weapon — a Glock pistol, 9mm caliber — and fired a fatal shot, killing the sergeant. Immediately afterward, Juárez used the same gun to take his own life. Both of their children, aged 13 and 8, were present in the home at the time of the incident.

A colleague of Zárate’s told authorities that the late sergeant had engaged in a heated phone discussion with Juárez the previous evening, likely related to the custody of their children. Zárate had left her home an hour before her shift to pick up the children from their aunt’s house, where they had been staying.

One of their children discovered the bodies and dialed emergency services, alerting authorities. The child-assisted physician confirmed the deaths upon arrival. The scene was subsequently secured by local police from Villa Gesell’s 4th precinct, with the Police Scientific Unit also attending to process the scene.

The case is currently being handled by the 4th Unit Functional Instruction (UFI) in Pinamar, under the supervision of Juan Pablo Calderón from the Dolores Judicial District.
