Chris Butler Confirms Direct Outreach Over Classic Wave Inspiration

Chris Butler, who wrote, produced, and played guitar on The Waitresses’ 1981 holiday staple Christmas Wrapping, revealed that Rodrigo contacted him directly months prior to share the track. Writing on Facebook, Butler stated that he initially suspected a prank when “I received a weird email from someone claiming to be ‘Olivia Rodrigo,’” filled with praise for The Waitresses.

After researching Rodrigo’s career, Butler replied to the message and agreed to listen to the demo. He praised the song. Butler described the pop star as a delight in his online remarks.

Cynthia Nixon and Ben Marshall Star in Holiday Visual

The music video for take me home (4 christmas) leans into holiday sitcom tropes, featuring Saturday Night Live cast member Ben Marshall as Rodrigo’s partner and Sex and the City star Cynthia Nixon as his welcoming mother, according to Music Times. The visual features the family playing charades, carving a holiday bird, and making gingerbread houses while Rodrigo sings about wanting formal commitment from her partner.

I want you to take me home / And not so we can make out / I want you to take me home / Take me home to your parents’ house, Rodrigo sings in the chorus. The lyrics also joke about wanting to get drunk with your mother and father and be the coolest in-law daughter during a hungover brunch.
