One of Two V8 BMW E46 M3 Prototypes Is Now for Sale in the Netherlands

Hartge H50 Cabriolet Brings E39 M5 Power to the E46 Generation

An exceptionally rare BMW E46 M3 fitted with a V8 engine is currently listed for sale in the Netherlands with a price tag of just under 80,000 euros, Autovisie reported. While enthusiasts often associate the E46 generation with its high-revving straight-six, this specific car features an eight-cylinder powerplant built by German tuner Hartge rather than a home garage conversion.

Hartge produced only twelve examples of this conversion globally, including just two cabriolets. The model for sale carries a 2002 registration date and shows over 215,000 kilometers on the odometer. Unlike standard BMW models, Hartge-tuned vehicles received official manufacturer status and were registered under their own marque name as the Hartge H50.

V8 engine delivers nearly 450 horsepower

Underneath the hood sits the 4.9-liter V8 engine sourced from the E39 M5, delivering just under 450 horsepower to the rear wheels via a manual transmission. Hartge estimated the top speed at approximately 300 km/h, with a zero-to-100 km/h sprint taking around 4.5 seconds.

Visual modifications match the mechanical upgrades. The exterior features a unique hood, revised spoiler elements, distinctive Hartge wheels, and an exhaust system with twin tailpipes exiting from the center of the rear bumper. Inside, the cabin includes an M5 steering wheel to complete the conversion package.
