The Basilica of Mariazell has introduced a recent musical series titled Orgel zu Mittag
, which officially debuted on Saturday, May 2, 2026. This format provides visitors with the opportunity to experience the basilica’s unique organ sounds through a series of musical devotions.
A New Tradition for the 2026 Season
The program is scheduled to take place every second Saturday during the 2026 pilgrimage season. Each session lasts approximately half an hour, highlighting the sounds of both the High Altar organ and the Vienna Organ.
The inaugural performance featured two works by Johann Sebastian Bach and variations on the well-known Easter Marian song Lasst uns erfreuen herzlich sehr
. The event concluded with a 4-movement suite written in the romantic style.
Technical Mastery and Acoustic Impact
To create imposing and interesting sounds, full-time organist Florian Kaier operates from an electric console at the Grace Altar. This technical setup allows him to simultaneously direct the Vienna Organ on the organ loft and the organ at the High Altar.
