Headline: Major Shutdowns: Oslo’s Nationaltheatret and Majorstuen Stations Close on New Year’s First Saturday
Subhead: Wide-ranging T-bane closures and bus replacements set to hit Oslo West in 2025
Article:
In an unusually quiet start to 2025, Oslo’s commuters are bracing for significant disruptions as two major T-bane stations will be closed on the first Saturday of the year. The closures, reported by Aftenposten, are part of a larger series of shutdowns planned for the coming years.
Nationaltheatret and Majorstuen Stations Offline
On January 4, Oslo’s Nationaltheatret and Majorstuen stations will be closed to the public, leading to alternative travel arrangements for thousands of commuters. The closures are due to relocation work, with Sporveien moving its current technical facilities in the ‘Sangerhallen’ at Majorstuen to the ‘Holmenkollhallen’ further up the line.
T-bane Replacements: Buses Take Over
The weekend shutdowns aren’t limited to these two stations. According to Aftenposten, bus services will replace T-bane lines on several routes in Oslo West, including:
- Majorstuen to Borgen
- Majorstuen to Frognerseteren
- Majorstuen to Nydalen
- Majorstuen to Sognsvann
Ruter, Oslo’s public transport operator, has announced that it will strengthen Trikk (tram) services between the city center and Majorstuen to mitigate the disruption. Normal T-bane service is expected to resume on Sunday.
A Look Ahead: More Disruptions in 2025
The 2025 disruptions are part of a larger plan to upgrade and maintain Oslo’s T-bane network. Commuters are advised to keep an eye on updates and plan their journeys accordingly. For more information on the planned disruptions and how they might affect your commute, stay tuned to Nettavisen.
