Overnight lane closures continue on I-405 through the Sepulveda Pass this week

by Rachel Morgan News Editor

Motorists traveling through the Sepulveda Pass should anticipate significant traffic disruptions this week due to ongoing pavement rehabilitation work on Interstate 405. Transportation officials have scheduled both overnight lane reductions and extended weekend closures.

Overnight Lane Closures

Work will take place nightly between 9 p.m. Tuesday, February 3, and 6 a.m. Friday, February 6. This follows the conclusion of a previous three-day lane closure period. During these hours, up to two lanes will be closed in both directions of the 405.

Northbound lane reductions will affect areas between Wilshire Boulevard and Skirball Center Drive/Mulholland Drive, and again between Skirball Center Drive/Mulholland Drive and Sepulveda Boulevard. Southbound reductions will occur between U.S. 101 and Skirball Center Drive/Mulholland Drive, and between Skirball Center Drive/Mulholland Drive and Wilshire Boulevard.

Did You Know? The current work schedule begins just one day after the previous round of three lane closures ends.

Ramp Closures

Several on-ramps will be closed overnight. These include the Getty Center Drive on-ramp to northbound I-405, and the Sepulveda Boulevard on-ramps for both northbound and southbound traffic.

Extended Weekend Work

Further lane reductions are planned for the weekend, beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, February 6, and lasting until 5 a.m. Monday, February 9. Northbound I-405 will be reduced to three lanes between just south of the Getty Center Drive off-ramp and just north of Bel Air Crest Road. The northbound off-ramp to Getty Center Drive will also be closed during this time.

Southbound I-405 will similarly be reduced to three lanes between the Skirball Center Drive/Mulholland Drive on-ramp and the Getty Center Drive on-ramp.

Expert Insight: Infrastructure projects like this, while disruptive in the short term, are essential for maintaining the long-term safety and efficiency of vital transportation corridors. The need for electrical work and K-rail barrier installation suggests a comprehensive scope to the rehabilitation.

Officials advise drivers to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and consider alternate routes. Construction schedules are subject to change due to weather or operational needs.
