In a significant stride towards understanding and preventing non-communicable diseases in Italy, the Istituto Superiore di Sanità (ISS) and the Ministry of Health have initiated a new nationwide survey, with the city of Padova in the Veneto region chosen as one of the key participants. The survey, set to commence in January 2025, aims to assess the distribution of risk factors and prevalence of conditions such as hypertension, obesity, high cholesterol, and diabetes among adults aged 35 to 74.
The selection of Padova for this crucial study is a testament to the city’s commitment to public health and its collaborative effort with the ISS and the University of Padova Hospital. The local authority, led by Mayor Sergio Giordani, emphasizes the significance of this initiative, encouraging eligible residents to participate and contribute to enhancing their own health and the broader public health landscape.
Individuals randomly selected from Padova’s residential registry will receive a-postal invitation to participate. Those who opt in will undergo free health checks, including blood pressure measurement, weight and height assessments, blood and urine tests, and lifestyle questionnaires. This comprehensive approach aligns with the survey’s objective of identifying areas for preventive measures, diagnoses, and assistance.
