Chilpancingo Shock: President of San Mateo Feria Patronato Gunned Down, Holiday Festivities Suspended

In a tragic turn of events, Martín Roberto Ramírez Ruiz, the president of the Patronato of the Feria de San Mateo, Navidad y Año Nuevo, was shot and killed in Chilpancingo, Guerrero, on Christmas Eve. The heinous act occurred at approximately 6:30 PM local time, as the city was preparing for its annual Teopancalaquis celebration.

According to reports by Quadratín, the dreadful incident took place at the San Mateo church. Martinez, who was also the president of the neighborhood committee, was shot dead during the event meant to herald the start of the Christmas feria. A minor was also injured in the attack.

The Teopancalaquis procession, a traditional practice that marks the beginning of the holiday fair, was abruptly halted following the fatal shooting. State authorities quickly stepped in to suspend all remaining festivities as a mark of respect and to ensure public safety.
