A Paris court awarded Kim Kardashian one euro in damages on Tuesday following a civil case tied to the 2016 armed robbery where she was bound at gunpoint.
According to legal representation involved in the proceedings, a Paris court ruled on Tuesday to grant U.S. reality TV star Kim Kardashian the nominal 1 euro, equivalent to roughly $1.15, in civil damages. The modest sum matches the exact financial request the celebrity made during her testimony in the civil damages case earlier in the year.
The October 2, 2016, heist left investigators and the public stunned as the perpetrators, disguised as police officers, forced their way into Kardashian’s room. Armed assailants bound her with zip ties and tape and placed her in a bathtub while making off with more than $6 million worth of jewelry. The stolen items included a $4 million engagement ring given to her by her then-husband, rapper Kanye West, who now goes by Ye, alongside diamond Cartier bracelets, a gold-and-diamond Jacob necklace, Lorraine Schwartz earrings, and a gold Rolex. Most of those luxury pieces have never been recovered.
Joint Statement Emphasizes Accountability Over Financial Compensation
Following the court’s decision, Kardashian and her childhood friend Simone Harouche—her stylist, who was also present downstairs during the incident—released a joint statement to the press via The Associated Press. The pair underscored that the civil judgment was designed to secure recognition rather than monetary payout.

The statement added gratitude toward the court and supporters, noting that both individuals hope to now move forward and continue to heal. During her previous court testimony, Kardashian recalled the severity of the October night, telling the bench that she absolutely did think she was going to die during the ordeal.
Divergent Awards Issued to Hotel Staff and the Property Itself
While the civil court granted Kardashian and her stylist the symbolic 1 euro they requested, other plaintiffs involved in the litigation received substantially higher financial damages for the distress caused by the break-in. The receptionist’s legal counsel had initially petitioned for 550,000 euros in damages and interest, but celebrated the final figure as a victory after the ruling was read aloud to reporters.
Additionally, the Paris court directed 50,000 euros, roughly $57,741, directly to the hotel. The property had also sought compensation following the high-profile security breach that occurred during international fashion events.
The Conviction of the ‘Grandpa Robbers’ Ring
The civil awards arrive more than a year after a French court found eight individuals guilty for their participation in the conspiracy. French authorities arrested 17 suspects by January 2017, eventually bringing ten to trial after lengthy judicial delays. The defendants, primarily older men with extensive criminal records, earned the moniker les papys braqueurs
or the grandpa robbers across French media outlets due to their advanced ages, with several suspects ranging in their 60s and 70s.
Among those tried was Aomar Ait Khedache, identified as the mastermind of the operation, who was 69 years old at the time of the proceedings. During the 2025 court hearings, Kardashian told Khedache directly that she forgave him, while stressing that forgiveness did not erase the enduring psychological trauma of the night. Khedache received a three-year prison sentence, while seven other co-defendants were convicted on charges encompassing armed robbery, kidnapping, and gang association. Because all convicted individuals had already completed equivalent time in pretrial detention, none returned to prison following the verdict, and none chose to file an appeal.
