Piura Leads Nation in Dengue Vaccination Coverage

The Piura region has chalked up an impressive milestone in the fight against dengue, achieving the highest vaccination coverage in the country. According to the latest data from the Ministry of Health, Piura has vaccinated an astonishing 91.5% of its population against the mosquito-borne disease.

This remarkable figure surpasses the national average and sets a new benchmark for other regions to aspire to. The campaign, which aims to protect the most vulnerable populations, has focused on children aged between 9 months and 16 years old, along with adults in high-risk areas.

"The success of the vaccination campaign in Piura is a testament to the tireless efforts of our health teams and the remarkable cooperation of the local communities," said the regional director of Health, Dr. Carlos Espinoza.

Dengue, a viral infection spread by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, has been a persistent public health challenge in Peru. The disease can cause severe flu-like symptoms and, in some cases, life-threatening complications. The ongoing vaccination campaign is a significant step forward in controlling the spread of dengue and protecting the health of Peruvians.

The Ministry of Health has urged other regions to learn from Piura’s experience and redouble their efforts to improve vaccination coverage. "We are confident that, with continued collaboration and dedication, we can overcome dengue and ensure the wellbeing of all Peruvians," said a spokesperson for the Ministry.

In the meantime, health authorities continue to remind the public of the importance of taking preventive measures against dengue, such as eliminating potential mosquito breeding sites in and around the home, using mosquito repellents, and seeking immediate medical attention if flu-like symptoms develop.
