Nintendo announced November 1 as the first annual Pikmin Day during a surprise broadcast hosted by Shigeru Miyamoto, alongside a free November 2 demo for Pikmin 4 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy, which launches officially on November 12, 2026.
The gaming giant surprised fans on Halloween with a broadcast dedicated entirely to its 25-year-old puzzle-strategy franchise. Shigeru Miyamoto kicked off the presentation by officially establishing November 1 as a recurring calendar holiday, aligning the date with the franchise’s roots.
Why November 1 Became Pikmin Day
The timing behind the newly minted holiday relies on simple visual symmetry rather than an original store release. Stand three Pikmin shoulder to shoulder, and their red, yellow, and blue profiles resemble the digits 11/1 on a calendar.
Starting this year, we’re going to start calling November 1st, Pikmin Day.
Shigeru Miyamoto
The franchise first debuted in Japan in October 2001 before coming to North America in December. Miyamoto, who directed classic games such as Super Mario 64 and produced The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, recently argued that the rise of generative AI tools won’t necessarily replace human talent.
Pikmin 4 Switch 2 Edition Features and Demo Release
Players eager to experience the hardware upgrade won’t have to wait long. A free eShop demo arrives on November 2nd, 2026, covering the opening area known as Sunspeckled Terrace alongside two stages of the new Dandori Academy mode. Save data from this trial transfers directly to the full retail release.
The complete package, titled Pikmin 4 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy, launches on November 12, 2026. The upgraded version introduces improved visuals and hardware-specific control additions.
Owners of the original hardware can purchase an upgrade pack from the eShop for $9.99, while physical buyers will find the Switch 2 edition listed at retailers including Amazon and GameStop.
Dandori Academy and Pikmin Bloom Secret Caves Integration
Efficiency-focused gameplay takes center stage in Dandori Academy, a collection of time-trial challenges designed to test route planning and resource management. The mode features 72 challenge stages rolled out over time, with scored exams occurring every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday complete with online leaderboards.

Progress made in the console release ties directly into Pikmin Bloom. Meeting supported requirements in the Switch 2 game yields special Cave Maps and postcards for mobile players.
Pikmin Bloom’s Secret Caves allow users to send large squads of Pikmin underground to battle creatures and recover hidden artifacts. Any treasures discovered during these underground expeditions populate a newly added Treasure Catalog.
Hello! Pikmin Animation Shorts and Future Schedule
Miyamoto also detailed an expansion of the franchise’s animated content through a collaboration with Nintendo Pictures, the CG studio formerly known as Dynamo Pictures. Pikmin, builds upon the studio’s previous work on the 2025 short “Close to Youand older 2014 shorts like
The Night Juicer,” Treasure in a Bottle,
and Occupational Hazards.

Japanese actress Fuka Koshiba joined the broadcast after sharing her appreciation for the franchise. Koshiba introduced the first installment of the new shorts, which features a Pikmin navigating an encounter with a toad. Additional episodes roll out through November before transitioning to a monthly release schedule on the Nintendo Today app and other channels starting in December.
