Kebony Shuts Down Skien Factory: 58 Jobs at Risk
Article:
The Kebony factory in Skien has officially closed its doors, leaving 58 employees uncertain about their future. The company announced the decision today, citing high production costs and uncertain market demand.
"We understand that this is a very tough message for our employees," said Tom Paemeleire, CEO of Kebony. "After a comprehensive evaluation, including current cost levels and expected demand moving forward, Kebony has decided that there is no longer a basis for continued operation at the Skien facility."
The news was first reported by Varden. Kebony has informed its employee representatives and will now begin consultation meetings with the affected employees. The company aims to maintain jobs that are not directly related to production.
In a press release, Kebony stated that the management has worked together with the board, shareholders, and external parties over the past six months to secure financing for the current structure. However, these efforts have been unsuccessful.
The Kebony factory in Skien produced Kebony’s signature wood product, which is made from sustainably sourced pine that has been modified to resemble tropical hardwood. The closure marks the end of an era for the Skien facility, which has been in operation since 2012.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
