BreakingNews: Talks for Ecuador‘s New Cabinet Collapse Despite Serious Efforts

Desperate hopes of forming Ecuador’s new cabinet have dashed, leaving the political scene in disarray and the country in limbo. With negotiations between the ruling party, GERB, and the remaining three formations reaching what seemed to be their final stages, the talks have crumbled without a deal.

What Happened?

Efforts to forge a coalition were marked by seriousness and responsibility, according to political analysts. However, disagreements over the selection of the prime minister candidate from "Democratic Bulgaria" (DB) appear to have been the deal-breaker. GERB’s official nominee, Rosen Zheliazkov, was deemed unacceptable by other parties, sparking a stalemate.

Responsibility Lays with All Sides

Former Vice-Premier and ex-deputy from BSP, Meglena Plugchieva, offered her perspective on the breakdown. "All parties involved bear responsibility for this impasse," she told bTV. "GERB and the other participants accepted and respected the conditions set by DB. Now, it’s time for those opposing GERB’s candidate to step up and explain their reasoning."

Plugchieva urged transparency, saying, "Let’s bring out the proposed candidates from DB into the open. They can’t remain anonymous. The future of our country is at stake."

President’s Response

President Rumen Radev has yet to issue the first exploratory mandate. Yesterday, he extended an olive branch, stating that he would give parties a few more days to resume talks and reach an agreement. However, with the clock ticking, frustration is growing, and so is the risk of further political unrest.

Expert’s Warning

Plugchieva expressed her concern about the situation, "We desperately need a regular government. The caretaker government is doing nothing but celebrating its existence while the country sinks deeper into crisis – there’s no electricity, no water, and we pray for rain to fill our reservoirs."

Urging political actors to поведете се разумено, Plugchieva warned that without swift action, the country could plunge into even deeper chaos.
