Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, March 28, 2026, formally inaugurated Delhi-National Capital Region’s second airport at Jewar, Noida, marking a major boost to regional connectivity and infrastructure.

Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister stated the launch signaled the beginning of a transformative phase for both the state and the country, declaring, “Today we are starting a new chapter for a developed Uttar Pradesh and a developed India.”

The Prime Minister underscored that the project would unlock fresh opportunities for farmers, small and medium enterprises, and the youth in western Uttar Pradesh. He stated, “Flights from here will connect directly to the world, and the airport will stand as a symbol of a developed Uttar Pradesh taking flight.”
Regional Impact and Global Concerns
The Noida airport will serve a catchment area spanning Agra, Mathura, Aligarh, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Etawah, Bulandshahr, and Faridabad, significantly expanding connectivity across the region. However, Prime Minister Modi also acknowledged ongoing global concerns, specifically the conflict in West Asia, which has disrupted supplies of essential commodities like food, petrol, diesel, gas, and fertilisers.
Acknowledging India’s reliance on imports of crude oil and gas from the region, the Prime Minister affirmed the government is working to mitigate the impact on citizens, stating, “Every possible step is being taken to ensure that the burden of this crisis does not fall on ordinary families and farmers.” He appealed for calm and patience, characterizing these qualities as a key strength of the Indian people.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the expansion of the UDAN scheme and the laying of a foundation for an aircraft Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility at the Noida airport, noting that 85 per cent of Indian aircraft currently require MRO services abroad.
Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath were also present at the inauguration. Mr. Naidu stated the Noida International Airport will be developed as an aerotropolis, not simply an airport, and described the event as “a moment of great happiness” for the entire country.
