Local Leader Urges Accelerated Vaccination Efforts as Mouth and Foot Disease Spreads Among Cattle in Ngawi

Ngawi, Indonesia – Yuwono Kartiko, commonly known as ‘King’, the head of the Ngawi Regency Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), has expressed hope for an accelerated vaccination drive in the wake of a rising number of cattle afflicted with Mouth and Foot Disease (MFDS) in the region.

As of Friday, March 1, data from the Ngawi Regency Fisheries and Livestock Service revealed that 584 cattle had been exposed to the disease, with dozens more reported to have succumbed to it. This alarming situation has prompted Pak King, as he is fondly called, to urge swift action, including the immediate initiation of vaccination campaigns for healthy cattle.

"Given the current condition, curative steps must be taken promptly," Pak King stated on Friday, March 1, 2025. "Vaccination should be prioritized for Ngawi’s cattle."

To facilitate this rapid vaccination drive, Pak King pointed out the existence of contingency budget (BTT) provisions in the budget, which can be used in emergency situations. He acknowledged, however, that certain mechanisms and regulations must be followed for the use of these funds, and that the DPRD is awaiting further directives from the local government.

Pak King emphasized the importance of strategic action from the relevant authorities, particularly in procuring and administering MFDS vaccines. He also underscored the need for intensive socialization about the benefits of vaccination to allay the hesitancy of some cattle owners who are reportedly resistant to the idea.

"Vaccination is crucial to control the spread of this disease," Pak King emphasized. "We urge the relevant authorities to act swiftly and decisively in implementing this vaccination campaign."

The ongoing MFDS outbreak in Ngawi serves as a stark reminder of the importance of proactive measures in preventing and mitigating the impact of livestock diseases. With prompt and effective action, the region can hope to contain the spread of this devastating disease and minimize its impact on the local farming community.
