Speaking to De Gooi- en Eemlander, the distraught owner expressed their disbelief, "I couldn’t believe what was happening. I just ran through the dogs to get to my cat, but it was too late."
Hundreds of Cats Vanish Annually in Baarn
The incident involving Katje is not an isolated one. According to a report by Hart van Nederland, hundreds of cats disappear annually in Baarn, with many presumed victims of roaming dogs. A local cat owner, whose kitten was recently killed by loose dogs, pleaded, "People need to keep their dogs on a leash. These animals are our family, and we shouldn’t have to fear for their lives."

De Gooi- en Eemlander reported that dogs have been terrorizing Baarn’s forests, with multiple sightings of packs of dogs running loose and causing damage. Local residents are calling on pet owners to take responsibility, with one resident stating, "Baasjes, neem je verantwoordelijkheid [Dutch for ‘Owners, take responsibility’]."
