Poles’ Future Vision: Karolina Nawrocka’s Presidential Bid and Ukraine
In a recent appearance on the "Guest of Events" TV program, Karolina Nawrocka, the president of Poland’s Institute of National Remembrance and presidential candidate for the "Law and Justice" party, shared her vision for Ukraine’s future.
Ms. Nawrocka stated unequivocally, "I currently see no place for Ukraine in any international association, neither the European Union nor NATO. A nation unable to confront its past cannot be a partner in such alliances."
Elaborating on her stance, should she ascend to Poland’s highest office, Ms. Nawrocka stressed the need for clear terms with Ukraine. These would include facilitating the proper interment of Polish victims of the Volhynia Massacre.
"Our financial, military, and civilian support for Ukraine," she said, "should be met with reciprocal partnership and the chance to lay our women and children to rest."
However, Ms. Nawrocka was critical of Poland’s Foreign Minister, Radoslaw Sikorski, agreeing with Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Andrew Sybiga, on a Volhynia exhumation deal. She deemed it "an unnecessary move by the foreign minister’s office."
With Poland’s presidential elections scheduled for May 18, 2025, Ms. Nawrocka’s stance on Ukraine’s future underlines her tough approach to international relations, emphasizing the importance of historical acknowledgment in-building partnerships.
