Police in ‘s-Hertogenbosch had an eventful evening on Saturday night, as they managed to apprehend two suspected individuals following a high-speed chase. The incident, which involved a failed attempted burglary at a local distribution center, unfolded as follows:
The Attempted Burglary
The drama began around 9 PM when police received a report of an attempted break-in at Makro, a cash-and-carry wholesaler in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. Upon their arrival, officers spotted a white van leaving the scene at a high speed. Recognizing the vehicle as a potential getaway car, they gave chase.
The Chase
The subsequent pursuit lasted only a short distance, as the suspects’ vehicle collided with several ‘varkensruggen’—large, ovoid-shaped beton blocks present along the road—approximately four kilometers away from the scene of the attempted crime. Apprehending the Suspects
One of the suspects, the driver, then fled the scene on foot and allegedly attempted to hide in nearby water for a short while to evade capture. However, police eventually apprehended him after a brief chase on foot. The driver is reported to have been secured first by officers, with paramedics conducting a routine check as a precaution.
His accomplice sustained injuries in the crash and was subsequently taken to the hospital for treatment and observation. For procedural purposes, police accompanied him during the transport, as he too is considered a suspect.
Evidence at the Scene
Upon inspecting the abandoned vehicle, police discovered various tools and equipment commonly used in burglaries, such as a sledgehammer, an angle grinder, and a cordless drill. These found items further strengthen the case against the two suspects.
The Getaway Car
Investigators were also surprised to find that thekentekens (license plates) affixed to the wrecked van belonged to a different make and model of a passenger car. This discrepancy could potentially provide valuable leads in the ongoing investigation.
