Rome‘s Top News: Pope Francis to Visit Ukraine in 2025

In an eagerly awaited announcement, the head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC), Sviatoslav Shevchuk, has confirmed that Pope Francis is planning a visit to Ukraine in 2025. This reveal came during an interview with Radio Svoboda.

Details of the visit are still sketchy, with no confirmed dates set as of now. However, the UGCC has received assurances that the Pope has accepted the invitation. Shevchuk hinted at the possibility of a surprise announcement, stating, "Pope Francis sometimes likes to make surprises. He may announce the visit just a month before he decides to come to Ukraine."

This news comes on the heels of the Pope’s traditional Christmas message on December 25, where he condemned the ongoing war in Ukraine and called for its immediate cessation. "War is not the way, it’s not the way. Please, let’s start again the path of peace," he appealed.

Earlier this year, the Pope had emphasized the importance of negotiation in resolving conflicts, stating that "peace is always gained through dialogue." This sentiment was echoed by Shevchuk, who expressed his hope for a just peace in Ukraine as we welcome the new year.
