Emergency responders arrived to find both drivers down at the scene. Paramedics transported both individuals to a nearby hospital, where both riders were listed in critical condition.
Northwest St. Helens Road Closure and Police Investigation
The severity of the impact forced authorities to shut down traffic infrastructure in the area. Northwest St. Helens Road was closed between Northwest Front Avenue and Northwest Balboa Avenue while investigators processed the scene.

Other Recent Portland Motorcycle Incidents
Portland police have documented other fatal motorcycle incidents in recent weeks. On Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at 8:36 p.m., North Precinct officers were dispatched to a single-vehicle crash on Northeast Airport Way at Northeast 138th Avenue involving a motorcycle in the Argay Terrace neighborhood. When police and AMR arrived, they found the motorcyclist deceased at the scene. The rider was later identified as 32-year-old Arun Vaco Roy, of Vancouver, Washington. Northeast Airport Way was closed between Northeast 138th Avenue and Northeast 148th Avenue to all traffic and remained closed for several hours as the Major Crash Team investigated. Officials asked anyone with information regarding case number 26-204576 to e-mail [email protected].
Additionally, police identified the victim of a Northeast Portland motorcycle crash that occurred on a Sunday evening. Officials stated that 24-year-old Ethan Krebs died after crashing on the Northeast 33rd Avenue overpass to Northeast Columbia Boulevard. Responding officials found Krebs unresponsive, and he was declared dead at the scene.
The ongoing investigation into the Northwest Portland collision remains active as detectives await further updates on the hospitalized riders.
