Potential Chlorine Leak at Røa Pool in Oslo Prompts Evacuation of Nearby Training Center, Two Sent to Hospital
Article:
In a sudden incident at Røa pool in Oslo, authorities were alerted to a possible chlorine leak just before 3 PM local time. The pool was promptly closed, and a nearby training center was evacuated as a precautionary measure.
Monica Engebretsen, the on-scene leader from the Oslo Police, confirmed that an unexpected event in the pool’s technical room led to the release of chlorine gas. The exact cause of this incident is still under investigation.
Approximately 40 individuals were evacuated from the training center, and two people were sent to the hospital for precautionary checks after reporting discomfort. Vaktkommandør Fredrik Lien from the Oslo Fire and Rescue department reassured that while chlorine is not inherently harmful to health, it can be toxic in small amounts.
The strong smell of chlorine, characteristic of swimming pools, was unusually intense in the vicinity. Henrik and Katarina, gym-goers at the affected training center,(SATS), noticed the strong odor before the fire alarm went off. Within moments, they saw others leaving the premises.
"Today, the chlorine smell was much stronger than usual, and it was getting stronger," confirmed Henrik.
The incident is under investigation, and the affected area has been secured to ensure the safety of the public.
