Up to 5,300 households across Oslo’s Groruddalen were left without power on Wednesday evening, according to Elvia, the Norwegian power grid operator. The outage, which began at 6:19 PM and lasted for approximately two hours, affected residents in areas including Haugerud, Trosterud, Lindeberg, and Alfaset.

In a statement on their website, Elvia confirmed the incident and informed that their team was working to locate and rectify the issue. "The power outage is known, and our crew is working to identify and fix the fault," the company said.

Residents reported immediate impacts from the blackout. Tor Magne Brækkan, chairman of the Lutvanntoppen homeowners’ association, mentioned that residents were unable to access their vehicles parked in the garage and that the building’s heating system was inoperable. "We’re sitting here with candles and flashlights," he said.

Siham Essekouri and her family were in the middle of dinner when the power went out. "It was quite unsettling, especially given the current global situation. Now we’re just sitting in the dark waiting for the power to return," she commented.

By 7:15 PM, Essekouri confirmed that power had been restored to her household. Morten Schau, communications manager at Elvia, confirmed to Avisa Oslo that the last customers had their power restored at 7:13 PM.

The outage was traced back to a fault at the Stubberud transformer station, which subsequently caused the power failure in Groruddalen. Schau explained that the issue was a result of a cascading failure originating from an earlier fault at Strømmen.
