Ukraine Braces for Rotating Power Outages Amid Russian Strikes

Ukrainians are bracing for scheduled power outages across the country following a fresh round of Russian attacks on energy infrastructure. State-owned grid operator Ukrenergo announced that rolling blackouts will continue into the night, urging residents to check regional schedules on the official websites and social media pages of their local energy providers.

The Company stated that the forced restriction measures were implemented due to damage inflicted by Russia’s 13th major missile and drone attack on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure this year. The assault, according to Ukrenergo, occurred overnight and morning on Christmas Day. Emergency repair work has already begun at all accessible sites, with energy specialists pushing to restore damaged equipment swiftly.

Ukraine’s Minister of Energy, German Galushchenko, confirmed that Russia’s primary target was Ukraine’s energy sector in the Christmas Day attack. President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that over 70 missiles and 100 drones were launched into Ukrainian territory, with more than 50 intercepted by air defenses.

The strikes severely damaged energy facilities, including those belonging to DTEK, Ukraine’s largest energy producer. In response to the intense shelling, Ukrenergo initiated power cut schedules nationwide.
