High Electricity Demand Triggers Emergency Power Cuts in Ukrainian Regions
Yesterday at 14:38, senior news editor at LIGA.net, Andrei Vodyany, reported that extremely high power consumption on Monday led to the introduction of emergency power cut schedules in various regions across Ukraine.
Official announcements by NEC "Ukrenergo" and local power distribution operators around 14:30 indicated the need to relieve the burden on the energy system. Users were urged to be mindful of their energy usage, avoiding power-intensive appliances and steering clear of elevators where possible.
Initially, power cuts were believed to affect only Kyiv and Dnipro, where Yasno (a DTEK brand) operates. However, updates suggest that planned power outages have also taken place in Sumy, Chernihiv, Poltava, Cherkasy, Kirovohrad, and Donetsk oblasts.
Update at 16:48: Ukrenergo clarified that the temporary power restrictions were imposed due to the urgency of replacing equipment damaged by shelling and the loss of certain power generation capacities. These restrictions, affecting residential consumers, were expected to last until approximately 17:00, allowing time for the necessary repairs and replacement.
