Denpasar – Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) Arifah Fauzi recently lauded the Merah Putih Village Cooperative (KMP) Sidakarya in Denpasar for its success in empowering women through the growth of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Minister Fauzi visited the cooperative in Sidakarya Village, South Denpasar, on Wednesday to observe its operations. She noted that the majority of its members are small business owners. Since its launch in August 2025, the cooperative has grown to include approximately 505 members.
According to Minister Fauzi, cooperatives are vital for supporting lower-middle-income communities by providing access to financing without the high interest rates often charged by informal lenders. The cooperative system offers members more affordable financing options, alongside training and mentoring programs designed to strengthen their economic capabilities.
Women’s Role in Economic Development
Minister Fauzi highlighted that approximately 65 percent of the cooperative’s members are women involved in diverse businesses, including vegetable vending, home-based cake production, and boutique ownership. She emphasized that this demonstrates the significant contribution women craft to both household and village economies.
The Minister stated that the cooperative’s success aligns with the President’s initiative to promote village independence and resilience through community-supported development. She believes that with adequate support, women can significantly advance MSMEs at the local level.

Minister Fauzi envisions village cooperatives evolving beyond savings and loan institutions to become platforms for collaboration and community consultation. She also noted their potential to address local challenges, including the prevention and response to violence against women, and children. Strengthening these cooperatives, she said, could contribute to stability and prosperity at the village level, and facilitate collective problem-solving.
