Prabowo Ready to Visit North Korea Following South Korean President’s Request

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto stated that South Korean President Lee Jae Myung asked him to travel to North Korea to help open diplomatic channels, according to remarks delivered at the State Palace in Jakarta on Friday, July 31, 2026. Prabowo told a gathering of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) and business associations that he responded affirmatively to the request.

The request emerged during Prabowo’s visit to Seoul, South Korea. According to the Indonesian president, President Lee Jae Myung asked whether Prabowo could visit North Korea to initiate a dialogue. Prabowo recounted his response to the business leaders, stating he told the South Korean leader he would gladly make the trip if asked.

Prabowo told Kadin and business representatives that he responded by saying that with respect and willingness, he would depart for North Korea if His Excellency requested it.

President Prabowo framed the diplomatic request within the context of Indonesia’s foreign policy.
