Headline: Pepe Mujica Slams Cristina Kirchner and Axel Kicillof in New Attack
In a fresh interview with Uruguay’s Búsqueda weekly, former Uruguayan president José "Pepe" Mujica has once again targeted former Argentine president Cristina Fernández de Kirchner (CFK), this time also taking aim at Buenos Aires governor Axel Kicillof.
Mujica, who has never minced his words when it comes to his Argentine counterparts, launched a scathing attack on the pair. When asked about the backlash he received for his previous comments on CFK, Mujica retorted, "But they [Argentines] have Kicillof! Leave him to it, give the new guy some rope. It’s full of that [holding onto power]. They never want to retire. They always want to occupy the top spots. They think they’re irreplaceable. Who the fuck is irreplaceable? You die, and the world keeps turning."
The 80-year-old former guerrilla fighter and politician has a history of criticizing Kirchner and her inner circle. Back in November, he had slammed CFK for assuming the presidency of theJusticialist Party (PJ) and taking the reins of the Peronist party, overriding younger generations. "And there’s old Kirchner in Argentina, at the helm of the Peronists. Instead of stepping back and acting as an elder advisor, [letting] new generations take over, no, she’s still meddling. How it hurts them to step aside! She’s still shitting there!", Mujica had exclaimed in an interview with AFP.
With Argentina gearing up for presidential elections later this year, Mujica’s comments are likely to add fuel to the already intense political debate. As always, Mujica’s candid and often provocative remarks continue to stir up controversy, drawing attention to Argentina’s political landscape and its key players.
