Professor Henri Subiakto Comments on Hasto Kristiyanto‘s Status as Suspect

JAKARTA — Professor Henri Subiakto of Universitas Airlangga (Unair) has shared his insights on the recent appointment of Secretary General of PDIP, Hasto Kristiyanto, as a suspect. Professor Henri believes that President Joko Widodo‘s (Jokowi) indifference to the law has been evident since former KPK Chair Agus Raharjo revealed his personal experiences.

"When handling the e-KTP case, and later with Agus’ revelations, there was no denunciation from Jokowi," said Professor Henri. This, according to him, shows that the father of Gibran Rakabuming, the current Vice President, is indeed involved in such activities. "The impression of Jokowi’s fondness for ignoring the law has thus been deeply ingrained," he added.

Recently, Hasto Kristiyanto also spoke to the public, recalling an instance of Anies Baswedan‘s criminalization on Jokowi’s orders. "It appears the offensive against Jokowi has begun. Not only that, PDIP has even expelled the seventh president from the party," Professor Henri noted.

He acknowledges that PDIP’s expulsion of Jokowi and his family could be seen as a hurtful move, leading to the current situation where Hasto has been appointed as a suspect. "PDIP’s action was surely painful for Jokowi, and now Hasto is made a suspect by the KPK as a response," he opined.

The cold war between Jokowi and PDIP has reignited old cases, like that of Harun Masiku, who was allegedly involved in bribing KPU commissioners in 2019. The case has been reignited, suggesting that the political tension between the two parties may continue to simmer.
