Police arrested a 29-year-old man in Richwood, Cape Town, on Sunday, July 19, following the discovery of a significant cache of narcotics and weaponry. According to provincial police spokesperson Captain Frederick van Wyk, officers from Crime Intelligence seized drugs valued at approximately R10 million, along with seven 9mm pistols and over 1,000 rounds of ammunition, from an apartment allegedly used as a storage facility by a local gang.
Arrest at De Zicht Complex
The operation unfolded at about 9.19 pm at a premises in Sylvia Street, De Zicht. Officers had been conducting observation duties at the apartment after receiving intelligence regarding its use by a gang. When the suspect attempted to leave the complex in a white Mercedes-Benz, police boxed in the vehicle and ordered him to exit.
Upon searching the suspect, who was found holding a black shopping bag, officers recovered an unlicensed 9mm Taurus. The suspect also possessed a key to the apartment. According to police, the man informed officers during the transit that they would require a large number of forensic bags to process the scene.

The search yielded a total of seven 9mm pistols, 17 different types of magazines, and 1,030 rounds of ammunition of varying calibers. Additional drugs were located in the kitchen cupboards, while a box containing two of the pistols and ecstasy tablets was recovered from the top of a washing machine in the bathroom.
Legal Proceedings and Investigation
The suspect is currently detained and faces charges related to the illegal possession of firearms, ammunition, and drugs. He is scheduled to appear in the Goodwood Magistrate’s Court to face these charges.
