ANM Forecast Details and Regional Temperature Drops

Romania’s transition from summer warmth to autumn chill happens rapidly at the start of the week, according to ANM forecast director Florinela Georgescu during an interview with Digi24. While southern regions still record daytime highs up to 30 degrees Celsius on Monday, northern and central areas experience immediate cooling, with expected maximums ranging strictly between 14 and 23 degrees Celsius.

By Tuesday, the cooling trend extends nationwide, bringing daytime maximums down to between 13 and 22 degrees Celsius. Earlier in the week, peak temperatures reached up to 35 degrees Celsius in regions like the Câmpia de Vest, mirroring typical August conditions rather than mid-September averages. Nighttime temperatures will also plummet, dropping below 10 degrees Celsius across most of the country from Monday night onward, while depression areas could see lows reach 4 to 5 degrees Celsius.

Storms, Heavy Rainfall, and Wind Warnings

A separate meteorological warning issued by ANM highlights active atmospheric instability, heavy rainfall, and potential flash storms. An advisory is in place for Sunday between 10:00 and 23:00, predicting moderate rain, electrical discharges, small hail, and sudden wind gusts.

Dobrogea experiences persistent cloud cover with rainfall totals hitting 15 to 20 liters per square meter, occasionally exceeding 30 liters. Meanwhile, Muntenia, eastern and northeastern Oltenia, and mountain areas face afternoon and evening downpours. Short intervals of 1 to 3 hours may accumulate 15 to 25 liters per square meter, with localized totals reaching 50 liters per square meter in hill and mountain zones over the first three days of the week, according to ANM data.

Winds reach speeds of 40 to 50 km/h in the southern Banat, western and southern Oltenia, Bărăgan, Dobrogea, and the Southern and Curvature Carpathians, occasionally spiking to 60 km/h during storms. Small-diameter hail measuring 1 to 2 centimeters is also expected locally in the south.

Bucharest Weather and Regional Outlook

In the capital, Bucharest, conditions follow the broader national cool-down. Maximum temperatures settle around 22 degrees Celsius, accompanied by temporary cloud cover and afternoon or evening showers yielding 5 to 10 liters per square meter. Minimum temperatures in Bucharest drop to 11 and 12 degrees Celsius under light to moderate winds.

Regional forecasts outline distinct trajectories across the country:

• Transylvania and Maramureș: Highs of 30 degrees Celsius on September 9 and 10 give way to daytime values remaining under 24 degrees Celsius through September 15.
• Banat and Crișana: Temperatures peak at 34 degrees Celsius under early-week heatwaves before dropping to 24-26 degrees Celsius mid-week.
• Moldova: Temperatures decline from 28 degrees Celsius to daily averages of 22 to 23 degrees Celsius.
