Ukrainian Special Forces Publish North Korean Soldier’s Drone Countermeasures and Artillery Tactics

In a recent development, the Special Forces of the Ukrainian army, also known as SSCO, have published the second part of notes made by a soldier named Kim, who was recently neutralized on the Kherson frontline. The soldier’s notebook, which was recovered at the scene, contained detailed insights into counter-drone tactics and artillery survival strategies typically employed by North Korean forces.

The soldier’s notes, procured by SSCO, instruct troops on how to respond to drone sightings and artillery strikes. While SSCO sources could not definitively confirm the origin of these tactics, they suggest they are either North Korean Army standard operating procedures or strategies shared with them by Russian forces.

The North Korean soldier’s counter-drone tactics involve forming a three-person team. One soldier acts as bait, holding the drone at a distance of 7 meters, while the other two, positioned 10-12 meters away, engage with firearms. The key is to mimic the drone’s movements to maximize the chance of a successful shootdown.

In the event of an artillery strike, the soldier’s notes advise splitting into smaller units to escape the impact zone and then regrouping once it’s safe. Simple yet effective illustrations, drawn by the soldier himself, accompanied these tactics.

SSCO continues its pursuit of North Korean soldiers in the Kherson region. They previously published photographs of the neutralized soldier Kim, along with another set of his notes, which included a birthday greeting to a comrade.
